This year the stories took us back to Malta. Culture and storytelling go hand in hand, as two of our schoolteachers Ms. Kerasina Tsitsipa and Ms. Eleftheria Nteli had the opportunity to discover in the second teachers’ training event between 7-11 October 2019.
In accordance with the terms of the project “Storytelling for Cultural and Language Development”, the activities covered both the educational and also the cultural aspect of the training.
After the welcome meeting with all partners, a visit to Valletta took place following a walk around Floriana and the Barrakka Gardens. Lunch was at The Gunpost, Valletta.
An introduction to the importance of storytelling for language development was presented to the teachers, followed by an organizational meeting for the project. The day ended with a storytelling workshop.
Local legends narrated by students was the main event of the day, as teachers visited the Newark School and conversed with both the staff and the students. A visit to the Medina followed in the afternoon.
Workshops on how to turn stories into games as an educational tool in the morning and a cultural visit to Birgu completed an exciting day.
CLIL and storytelling are intertwined, as the last workshop of the course illustrated. The certificate ceremony was followed by a farewell lunch, where the traditional Maltese cuisine was at its best.
